Son of Joseph Albert and Esther Turnbull and husband of Lynette Smithurst Turnbull, of Willoughby, New South Wales, Australia. He died on Sunday the 13th of September 1942, aged 30. His crew were involved in the 1,000 Bomber Raid on that evening but when they took off, they noticed a problem with their aircraft and decided to turn back. Tragically, as they approached the airfield, they spun out of control and crashed. “Operation Bremen”. All of the crew were killed. Joseph is buried in the Churchyard at St. Stephens.
