Son of Ernest William Clifford and Edith Ann Godfrey, of South Perth, Western Australia. Sergeant Godfrey died when the Wellington Bomber he was flying in, crash landed near Trent Valley Railway Station in Lichfield, on the 26th of February, 1942. The aircraft burst into flames. He was one of three men who were injured and although he was pulled from the flames, he sadly died later in hospital. He was 21 years old and was buried in St. Stephens Churchyard, Fradley.(Row 4, Grave 5) (Plot 265). All of the other crew members survived.
