Son of William Oliphant Gillespie and Elsie Kate Gillespie, of Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia. He was one of a crew of four who were killed in a training accident very near to Fradley on Saturday the 18th of October 1941, aged 25. Due to very bad weather, the aircraft became out of control and crashed into the ground, about 1 mile North of the airfield. He is buried at St. Stephens Churchyard in Fradley. (Row 1, Grave 4) (Plot 276). He was the only Australian crew member.
