DETAILS OF ACCIDENT
Took off from Lichfield for night bombing practise. During the flight, the weather
became really bad and the bombers compass stopped working. They were lost!
The crew requested help over the radio and then nothing else was heard from
them. At about 21.05, the Wellington crashed into a wood, 2 miles South of
Echilles Farm at King’s Bromley and 5 miles North from Lichfield. All of the crew
were killed in the crash. The Australians were buried in St. Stephens Churchyard in
Fradley, while the others were claimed by their relatives.
