DETAILS OF ACCIDENT
Wellington BK843 took off from RAF Lichfield at 13:50, to carry out a non-operational flight over the North Sea. The route was Lichfield – Attenborough – 55.00N 00.00E – Drem – Alconbury – Cannock – return to base. At 16:30, a first class fix of 281 deg was obtained, but thereafter nothing was heard from the aircraft and it failed to return to base. Following post war enquiries and investigations, it was recorded in 1949 that the missing crew had lost their lives at sea.
