DETAILS OF ACCIDENT

Took off from Lichfield at 19.42 for a night exercise. They crashed just 14 minutes later at Stychbrook Farm near the airfield. The accident happened because, a pivot tube cover had not been taken off before the aircraft took off. The air speed indicator wasn’t working and this led to the crash. Three men died in the crash and within 24 hours two more had died F/S Cook and P/O Harrison. Sgt. Wishart died later in hospital on the 22nd of December. He was buried with F/S Bryant in St. Stephens Churchyard, Fradley.
